Fifteen years after the Second Impact, humanity faces a new threat: Angels, monstrous celestial beings that invade Tokyo-3. Despite advanced military tactics, the only hope lies in NERV, a secret organization that uses giant humanoid robots called "Evangelions" to fight the Angels. Shinji Ikari, abandoned by his father, returns to Tokyo-3 and is recruited to pilot Evangelion Unit-01. Struggling with trauma and emotional neglect, he meets Misato Katsuragi, a kind officer who offers him the care he's never known.
