In a world teetering on the edge of war, the skilled spy "Twilight" assumes the identity of Loid Forger, a psychiatrist, to gather intel on a key politician, Donovan Desmond. To gain access to Desmond, Loid fakes a family, enlisting Yor Briar, an assassin, as his wife, and adopting Anya, a young orphan with telepathic powers.
